A devastating incident occurred in a New York City park on the Fourth of July, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and leaving eight others injured. The tragedy unfolded when a Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by an intoxicated individual, crashed into Corlears Hook Park on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

The victims of the crash were identified as Lucille Pinkney, 59, her son Hernan Pinkney, 38, and Ana Morel, 43. The driver of the truck, Daniel Hyden, 44, was arrested on multiple charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.

Family members and loved ones of the deceased expressed their profound grief and sorrow over the loss. Lucille and Hernan Pinkney were described as cherished members of their community, with Hernan being remembered for his competitive spirit and close bond with his family.

During a news conference, Police Chief Jeffrey Maddrey revealed that the truck was travelling at a high speed before veering onto the sidewalk and crashing into the park. Fire Department Assistant Chief Michael Meyers recounted the harrowing scene of firefighters working to extricate victims pinned under the pickup.

Among the injured were an 11-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman, and several individuals in their 30s. The crash occurred just before the start of the Macy’s fireworks show, casting a shadow over the Fourth of July celebrations in the city.

Mayor Eric Adams expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy, emphasising the need for vigilance and safety on the city’s streets. The incident comes in the wake of another fatal crash on Long Island, underscoring the dangers of driving under the influence.

Lucille Pinkney and her son Hernan were known for their close relationship and vibrant personalities. Family members described Hernan as outgoing and humorous, while Lucille was a beloved figure in their community.
