An incident in the early hours of Friday morning in the southern outskirts of Mt. Vernon, IL has left three individuals from the same city hospitalised.

Reports from local media outlets and Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Bullard indicate that the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 am on Illinois Route 148, just south of Veterans Memorial Drive in the vicinity of Mt. Vernon.

Police officials have stated that 21-year-old Lansdale Hunter, the driver of the vehicle involved, claimed to have lost control of the car when attempting to avoid colliding with a deer on the road. This resulted in the vehicle veering off the carriageway and colliding with a tree, leading to the car catching fire upon impact. Fortunately, all three individuals inside the vehicle, including 25-year-old Jaymela Hunter and 33-year-old Nikko Branch, managed to exit the car before it was engulfed in flames. Emergency services arrived promptly on the scene and transported the trio to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the incident.
