Smoky Lake – A devastating collision on Highway 28, east of Spedden in Smoky Lake County, has resulted in the untimely deaths of a 37-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman from the Lac La Biche area.

The incident, which occurred on July 4, was reported to Smoky Lake RCMP at 10:40 p.m. Emergency responders arrived at the scene near range road 121 to find a Mazda sedan and a GMC 3500 involved in a serious crash.

Tragically, the two occupants of the Mazda were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the GMC sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment by EMS.

In a statement released by the RCMP, it was revealed that preliminary investigations suggest that the Mazda swerved into oncoming traffic after hitting an animal, leading to the fatal collision with the GMC.
