Journalist Ansh Thapar was brutally attacked by a group of assailants in Ludhiana, Punjab, leaving him with severe injuries to his head, arms, and legs. Ludhiana Police Commissioner Kuldeep Chahal and Fatehgarh Sahib Senior Superintendent of Police Ravjot Grewal confirmed the details of the attack during a press conference.

Two of the attackers, identified as Sarabjit Singh and Harjot Singh, both residents of Ludhiana, were apprehended in Fatehgarh Sahib. The police managed to recover the scooter used in the attack from the suspects. However, the third assailant, Tehal Singh, is currently evading authorities, with ongoing raids to locate and arrest him.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with the incident. Additionally, Thapar’s security guard has been suspended for negligence in carrying out his duties.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned the attack and called for the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar stated, “This incident highlights the failure of the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, in ensuring peace and security in the state.”

“Those responsible for this heinous attack must face strict legal action,” Jakhar emphasised in a social media post in Punjabi. Punjab BJP general secretary Anil Sareen criticised Mann, pointing out that as both the chief minister and the home minister, he is accountable for the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

According to Sareen, since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) assumed power in Punjab, law enforcement has significantly deteriorated, leading to a rise in criminal incidents. He described the Punjab government’s handling of security matters as a “complete failure.”

Calling for accountability, Sareen urged the chief minister to take moral responsibility for the incident and step down from his position. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal criticised Mann for his lack of action in addressing the escalating violence under the AAP government.

“The frequency of such incidents under the @AamAadmiParty government is alarming, yet CM @BhagwantMann remains indifferent to the worsening law and order situation,” Badal remarked on social media.
