A man in Levittown, New York, was taken into custody on Thursday following allegations that he provided fireworks to an 11-year-old child, resulting in a fire that destroyed two homes, authorities reported.

The Wantaugh Fire Department received a call about a fire at a shed adjacent to 128 Red Maple Drive North in Levittown, Long Island, at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Thursday.

Upon arrival, the first responding firefighter noted that the fire had spread to multiple properties, prompting an escalated response from all fire stations in the vicinity.

First Assistant Chief Bill Stevens, the initial responder, observed flames climbing up the side of one house and extending to the neighbouring property at 130 Red Maple Drive North.

Several fire engines arrived at the scene and were able to extinguish the fires within an hour, with no reported injuries.

Regrettably, the fire department noted that they were unable to participate in Wantaugh’s Annual 4th of July parade due to the timing of the incident.

Following an investigation by the Nassau County Police Department’s Bomb and Arson Squad, it was discovered that Karamjit Singh, 33, allegedly provided fireworks to the child and instructed him to ignite them. One of the fireworks struck a shed, sparking the blaze that engulfed Singh’s residence and a neighbouring property.
