CHICKASAW, Ala. (WALA) – Three individuals have been apprehended following a high-speed pursuit originating from Atmore and extending along Interstate 65 before culminating in a collision in Chickasaw.

The Alabama Department of Corrections reported that an officer from the ADOC Law Enforcement Services Division observed a suspicious vehicle and an individual allegedly attempting to smuggle contraband into the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore on Friday morning.

After the suspect entered the vehicle and fled the scene, a chase ensued heading south on I-65, ultimately resulting in a crash at Exit 10 in Chickasaw.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Justin Duckworth, attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended shortly thereafter.

The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Jajuan Williams, and the rear passenger, 25-year-old Amber Shields, were both taken into custody at the crash site.

All three suspects have been lodged in the Escambia County Jail.

Charges against the trio include first-degree promoting prison contraband, attempted commission of a controlled substance offence, possession of first-degree marijuana, and engagement in prohibited activities as per ADOC.

Furthermore, Duckworth faces charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property in the second degree.

Williams is also accused of felony eluding and first-degree criminal damage.

LESD’s investigation remains ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges being brought against the suspects.

The ADOC acknowledged the support provided by the Poarch Creek Indians Police Department, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency during the incident.
