The body discovered in the Ohio River over a year ago has been identified as 17-year-old JayShawn Fountain, who had been missing from the Pittsburgh area since February 2023.
Wellsville Police had requested public assistance in identifying the body, which was found washed up on the riverbank. The long-awaited identification has now provided closure to the case.
Authorities confirmed that JayShawn Fountain’s remains were located after an extensive search and investigation. The teen had been missing for over a year, leaving family and friends desperate for answers.

The initial discovery of the body by Wellsville Police in April 2023 raised questions and concerns in the community. Despite efforts to identify the individual, it wasn’t until recently that a breakthrough was made in the case.
Authorities expressed gratitude to the Newell and Wellsville Fire Departments, the Columbiana County Prosecutors and Coroner’s Offices, and Lisa Savage from BCI&I for their assistance in resolving the case. The tragic loss of JayShawn Fountain has deeply impacted his loved ones, and their hearts go out to his family during this difficult time.
