Cleveland Police to Host Memorial Run for Slain Officer Jamieson Ritter

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland Police have announced plans to hold a memorial run in honour of fallen officer Jamieson Ritter. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday morning, with participants meeting at 9 a.m. at Cleveland Police Headquarters on Ontario. From there, they will march to the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial on Lakeside Avenue, as outlined in a Facebook post by Cleveland Police District 3.

At the memorial site, attendees will gather for a prayer and moment of silence before embarking on a short formation run around the block, culminating back at the memorial. Officer Ritter’s academy classmates are set to join the run, carrying their class flag in his memory.

The memorial service for Officer Ritter is scheduled for Monday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saint John the Evangelist.

Officer Ritter, aged 27, tragically lost his life after being shot in the 1500 block of E. 80th Place in Cleveland’s Hough neighbourhood in the early hours of Thursday. Chief Dorothy Todd revealed that multiple officers had responded to the area to execute a warrant on a man wanted for felonious assault.

Upon arrival, the suspect, later identified as Delawnte Hardy, was spotted leaving a residence on a bicycle. Chief Todd reported that as officers attempted to apprehend him, the suspect opened fire, hitting Officer Ritter.

Hardy was swiftly apprehended at the scene and taken to the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. He now faces charges of aggravated murder and is being held on a $5 million bond.
