A 38-year-old man from Pahoa, identified as George Dale Foote Jr., has been charged by Hawaii Island police after allegedly dousing a 15-year-old boy with gasoline and threatening to set him on fire. The incident took place on Kamanu Street in Puna on Tuesday afternoon. The victim is reported to be the son of Foote’s girlfriend.
According to the teen, he was searching for his mother on Foote’s property when the suspect confronted him and demanded that he leave. Foote then retrieved a small bucket containing what is believed to be gasoline and a torch lighter from his pickup truck. He proceeded to threaten the victim with the gasoline, indicating his intention to ignite it.
After calling out for the victim’s mother, who did not respond, Foote allegedly threw the gasoline at the teen, causing it to come into contact with his eyes. Fearing for his safety, the young boy ran away from the scene, later reporting that he heard Foote attempting to ignite the torch lighter.
Following the incident, Foote was arrested and booked on charges that include terroristic threatening, attempted assault, and assault. He was subsequently released on a $24,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 1st.
