Recently, a heartbreaking incident has come to light in Karnataka, where an 11-year-old boy named Gagan from Anjanapura, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, succumbed to dengue fever. Gagan, a student of Chaitanya Techno School, had been undergoing treatment for dengue at a private hospital in Bengaluru for a few days before tragically passing away on a late Friday night.
In another unfortunate event, a 74-year-old man in Gandhinagar, Shivamogga district, lost his life after contracting the Zika virus. The man was diagnosed with Zika on June 21 and had been experiencing severe fever symptoms since June 19. Despite being discharged from the hospital on Thursday, he continued to receive treatment at home until his untimely death on Friday night.
Karnataka Health Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, has urged Deputy Commissioners across the state to remain vigilant in monitoring the spread of Zika virus and dengue cases. In response to the increasing cases of dengue, the state government has implemented a price cap of Rs 600 for dengue testing.
It is concerning to note that Karnataka has seen a 42% surge in dengue cases compared to the previous year, with a total of 6,187 confirmed cases and six fatalities reported between January and July 2. This alarming rise in cases underscores the urgent need for heightened awareness and preventive measures to combat these deadly diseases.
