Efren David Cosme Malohua : “Man Arrested for Human Smuggling in Tombstone”

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A man has been arrested following a high-speed pursuit with deputies just north of Tombstone on Wednesday evening.

The incident unfolded when deputies attempted to pull over a white Camaro on Highway 80, shortly after 9 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 21-year-old Efren David Cosme Malohua from Mesa, was observed travelling at speeds of up to 120 mph while dangerously overtaking other vehicles and forcing them off the road.

Despite the deputies’ attempts to stop him, Malohua continued to evade them. As the pursuit reached mile marker 305, an unidentified individual dressed in camouflage attire exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Following the passenger’s departure, Malohua accelerated away from the scene, intermittently flashing his headlights.

Approximately three miles later, Department of Public Safety Troopers successfully deployed tire deflation devices, which punctured three out of the four tires on Malohua’s vehicle.

Following the immobilization of the vehicle, Malohua was apprehended and taken into custody. He has since been booked into Cochise County Jail on charges including felony human smuggling, unlawful flight, and a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Malohua is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

Further information regarding the unidentified individual who fled the scene, as well as the circumstances leading up to the pursuit, have not yet been disclosed. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
