BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Authorities in Alabama are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a 31-year-old man from Atlanta who disappeared on the Fourth of July in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Police Department has revealed that Deundray Cottrell was last seen on Thursday in the 7900 block of 4th Avenue South.

Cottrell’s sister, Angela Harris, shared with AL.com that her brother and his partner had traveled to visit her and her family for the holiday.

According to Harris, Cottrell mentioned that he was going to check on his dog during the fireworks display. However, after checking on the dog, he disappeared without a trace.

“He went to see the dog, and then he vanished,” Harris told AL.com.

The family later discovered Cottrell’s shoes and cell phone in the backyard of the home. Ring camera footage from neighbouring properties captured Cottrell running through various yards in apparent distress.

“It seemed like he was seeking safety. He was running as if his life depended on it,” Harris recounted.

In a Facebook post, Harris mentioned that Cottrell’s partner, known as Julian, is currently in hiding due to fears of potential harm.

Described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 155 pounds, Cottrell was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, a denim jacket, and jeans. He also had an American flag bandana and one red shoe.

“He is a beloved individual with a good heart, and his disappearance has caused immense pain to those who care for him. The situation is perplexing,” Harris expressed.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of either individual is urged to contact Birmingham Crime Stoppers at (205) 254-7777 or dial 911.
