Accident – Death – Obituary News : At least 33 people have lost their lives in a series of shootings and violent incidents across the United States during the extended Fourth of July weekend. The city of Chicago has been particularly hard hit, with 11 fatalities and 55 injuries reported as of Friday morning. The Chicago Sun-Times has described the situation as a “state of grief” for the city.

Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced plans to increase police presence in Chicago over the weekend in response to the recent surge in violence. A community rally is also scheduled for Friday evening to address the tragic events that have unfolded.

The violence in Chicago has been relentless, with multiple shootings occurring in different neighbourhoods. In the Little Italy area, eight people were wounded shortly after midnight on Friday. About 90 minutes later, six individuals were injured in a separate incident in the Austin neighbourhood. Police believe both incidents involved exchanges of gunfire between individuals who then fled the scene.

The recent violence has even prompted officials to close a popular Lake Michigan beach, 31st Street Beach, early each night as a precautionary measure. Incidents of stabbings and shootings at the beach have raised concerns for public safety.

The wave of violence was not limited to Chicago, as other cities across the nation also experienced tragic events. In Huntington Beach, California, two people were killed and three others injured in an attack following an Independence Day fireworks show. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident.

In Ohio, a 15-year-old male is in custody after a 23-year-old man was fatally shot at a Fourth of July party in Niles. Meanwhile, in Cleveland, a 10-year-old girl was tragically killed in a neighbourhood shooting. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Philadelphia also witnessed a drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 19-year-old man and left six others injured on Thursday night. The wounded individuals, including four juveniles, are currently receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

In Boston, three separate shootings occurred after the city’s Fourth of July celebrations, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. The fatal shooting took place in a park near the South End neighbourhood, while three individuals were wounded in Jamaica Plain. A third shooting at a gas station left a victim with life-threatening injuries.

The tragic events unfolded in various cities across the country, highlighting the need for increased efforts to address gun violence and ensure public safety during holidays and social gatherings. The incidents serve as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by communities in combating crime and preserving peace.
