SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC/Gray News) – A Fourth of July celebration turned deadly in Summerville, South Carolina, when a man tragically lost his life after a firework mishap.
Local authorities were alerted to the incident just after 10:20 p.m. on Thursday evening. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered 41-year-old Allen Ray McGrew lying on the road with severe injuries. Despite efforts to save him, McGrew was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.

According to officials, the fatal accident occurred when McGrew ignited a large firework device and placed it on top of his head. Tragically, the firework exploded on impact, causing catastrophic head injuries that ultimately led to his untimely death.
Witnesses at the neighbourhood block party where the incident occurred reportedly tried to intervene and prevent the tragic outcome. The community is left in shock and mourning following this devastating accident.
