A man in Summerville, South Carolina met a tragic end during a Fourth of July party when he placed a lit firecracker on his head, resulting in fatal injuries, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just after 10:20 p.m. on Thursday, as reported by WCSC. When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered a man, later identified as 41-year-old Allen Ray McGrew, lying on the road with severe injuries. Tragically, McGrew was pronounced dead at 11:10 p.m.
Authorities revealed that McGrew had ignited a “large firework device” and placed it on his head, leading to a catastrophic explosion that caused extreme head injuries. The coroner’s report confirmed the cause of death.
It was disclosed that McGrew had been attending a neighbourhood block party at the time of the incident. Eyewitnesses reportedly tried to intervene and prevent the tragic outcome, but were unsuccessful.
