As per a press release from the San Diego Police Department, the incident took place on Sept. 18, 2020, at approximately 3:25 a.m. A 911 call reported an assault with a deadly weapon in the 4400 block of Euclid Avenue. Responding police and emergency medical personnel found Farve, a 33-year-old Black male, with trauma to his upper body from a gunshot wound. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Farve succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at around 4:15 a.m., according to police statements.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was spearheaded by detectives from the department’s Homicide Unit, who identified Camarena as a “person of interest” in October 2020, as per a report by the Times of San Diego stated.
“During the course of their investigation, Detectives discovered that Farve had a previous relationship with a 25-year-old Hispanic woman, Sheila Camarena,” the release details. “On the day of the incident, a confrontation ensued between Camarena and Farve, resulting in his fatal shooting. A felony warrant for her arrest on a murder charge was issued on February 25, 2021. A Crime Stoppers alert sought the public’s help in locating her.”
Despite eluding law enforcement for over three years, Camarena was apprehended by detectives at the United States Port of Entry at 720 West San Ysidro Boulevard at 6:18 p.m. on Tuesday. The port of entry is approximately 15 miles south of the crime scene where Farve was killed. Camarena is currently detained without bond at the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility in Santee, California, as per online records.
A GoFundMe campaign set up for Farve’s family raised $10,000 to support his surviving young daughter.
“Mychael Blake Farve was taken from us too soon, leaving behind his family, friends, and beloved daughter,” the fundraising page expresses. “We are devastated by this tragic news, it feels surreal. He was cherished by everyone.”
Authorities stress that the investigation into the shooting is ongoing and urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
