Accident – Death – Obituary News : There has been a significant increase in incidents of anti-Muslim violence across India following the declaration of election results on June 4, as reported by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR). The report released on Tuesday, July 2, sheds light on the disturbing trend of lynching, communal violence, and state-sanctioned demolitions of Muslim residences in the aftermath of the elections.

The APCR, a collective of advocates, journalists, researchers, and paralegal volunteers committed to the promotion of civil and human rights in India, documented numerous instances of violence against Muslims in the wake of the poll results. The report outlines eight gruesome lynchings, six instances of mob violence, and three cases of demolitions targeting Muslim homes.

In one tragic incident in Gujarat on June 22, a 23-year-old Muslim man named Salman Vohra was brutally beaten to death by a group driven by extremist ideologies while he was watching a cricket match in Chikhodra. Similarly, in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on June 7, three Muslim men were viciously attacked by a Hindutva mob while transporting cattle. This heinous attack resulted in the deaths of two individuals on the spot, with another succumbing to injuries after being in a coma for 10 days.

Another distressing incident took place in Aligarh on June 18, where a 35-year-old Muslim man named Aurangzeb alias Farid was fatally assaulted by a group of Hindus, sparking communal tensions in the region. Shockingly, the deceased was posthumously accused of dacoity by the Aligarh police, while no investigation was initiated into the mob violence.

The report also highlights two separate lynching incidents in Kolkata, where Irshad Alam and Prasen Mandal, both Muslim individuals, were mercilessly killed in acts of senseless violence.

Furthermore, the APCR report documents a series of communal clashes targeting Muslims across the country, particularly during Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) on June 17. In Telangana’s Medak, a right-wing mob attacked a madrasa, injuring several individuals. Similarly, in Odisha’s Balasore and Khordha, communal scuffles led to a curfew being imposed for over a week, with Hindutva mobs vandalizing Muslim residences in the area.

In Himachal Pradesh’s Nahan, a textile shop owned by a Muslim individual was looted and vandalized by a large group of Hindus following a controversial WhatsApp status shared by the shopkeeper. The incident, captured on social media, showcases the mob forcibly ransacking the shop as onlookers cheer.

Moreover, communal tensions escalated in Jodhpur’s Jalori Gate on June 22, resulting in stone pelting and numerous injuries. The clash ensued after local residents opposed the construction of a gate near Eidgah, citing concerns about increased Muslim presence in the area.

The APCR report also brings to light the demolition of multiple Muslim homes by authorities in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandla district under the pretext of alleged cow meat consumption. Despite police justifying the demolitions by claiming the houses were built on government land, the actions have raised serious human rights concerns.

Additionally, the report details the demolition of houses in Jawra, Ratlam district, belonging to four Muslim men who were accused of desecrating a temple. The houses were demolished before a stay order was granted by the MP High Court, further exacerbating the injustice faced by the affected families.

Furthermore, a significant demolition operation was carried out in Akbarnagar locality in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, shortly after the announcement of Lok Sabha election results, where six Muslim homes were razed amidst allegations of attempted abduction of a Hindu woman.

Notably, in a series of incidents, Uttar Pradesh police have seized properties belonging to Muslims over accusations of involvement in “cattle smuggling” or beef selling. In Pilibhit district, a Muslim man had his house and assets worth Rs 15,89,000 confiscated for allegedly selling beef. Similarly, in Gonda district, properties of five Muslim individuals were seized for their alleged participation in cattle slaughter and trade.

The alarming rise in anti-Muslim violence, communal clashes, and property seizures highlighted in the APCR report underscores the urgent need for authorities to address and curb the growing tide of hatred and discrimination targeting minority communities in India..
