In a horrifying incident in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, a woman and her four-year-old son were allegedly set on fire by unknown perpetrators. The victims, identified as Rumpa Bibi (30) and her younger son Ayan Sheikh (4), tragically lost their lives in the attack. The woman’s husband, who was also injured in the incident, is currently receiving treatment for severe burn injuries at a local hospital. The incident occurred in Notungeet village in Birbhum.
The surviving member of the family, the couple’s elder son, was fortunately sleeping in another room at the time of the attack. He recounted waking up to the sound of his mother’s screams early Friday morning. According to his testimony, the room where his parents and brother were sleeping had open windows facing the road.
Local residents who rushed to the scene managed to rescue the family and swiftly transported them to Bolpur sub-divisional hospital and later to Burdwan Medical College & Hospital. Tragically, the four-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival at the hospital, followed by his mother. The father remains in critical condition.
The entire village is now gripped by shock and fear following the heinous crime. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine if there were any personal motives behind the attack.
