CEBU CITY, Philippines – In a disturbing incident in Sitio Buswang, Barangay Cambang-ug, Toledo City, Cebu, two intoxicated men reportedly punched and shot a man they deemed arrogant on Thursday evening, July 4.
The victim, identified as 48-year-old Roy Abarquez Isidro, was peacefully sitting by a riverside in the barangay when the assailants, who happened to be his neighbors, launched a brutal attack.
The violent episode unfolded around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, leaving Isidro severely injured and in need of immediate medical attention.
According to the police report, the suspects, Johnny Largo, 30, and an individual known only as Jaybe, approached Isidro as he sat by the riverside and without provocation, initiated the assault.
Isidro recounted that the two men appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the attack. Jaybe allegedly hurled insults at the victim, accusing him of being arrogant, before physically assaulting him.
Subsequently, Largo brandished a firearm of unknown caliber and fired a single shot at Isidro, striking him in the right leg. Following the violent act, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving Isidro in critical condition.
Isidro was promptly rushed to Toledo City Hospital for emergency treatment, while concerned citizens reported the incident to the authorities.
Suspects on the Run, Police Launch Hot Pursuit Operation
Law enforcement officials are currently engaged in a hot-pursuit operation to track down and apprehend the two suspects responsible for the heinous shooting incident. The perpetrators, if caught, are expected to face charges of frustrated murder.
Despite ongoing investigations, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving both authorities and residents puzzled by the senseless violence that unfolded in this otherwise peaceful community.
Toledo City, located approximately 46 kilometers west of Cebu City, has been rattled by a spate of violent incidents in recent times, prompting heightened security measures in the area.
