Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A Brazilian visitor met with a fatal accident while paragliding in the picturesque region of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan. This incident marks the fourth foreigner fatality in the mountainous area in less than two months.

Gilgit-Baltistan, a region with sparse population under Pakistan’s administration, boasts some of the world’s highest peaks and is a popular destination for tourists. Every year, hundreds of adventure enthusiasts flock to the area for mountain expeditions, paragliding, and various other sports activities.

In a recent tragedy, a Japanese climbing duo went missing during an ascent of the 7,027-meter Spantik Peak in Nagar district. While one climber’s body was recovered, the search for the second climber was called off. On a separate occasion, another Japanese climber lost his life while descending from the summit of Spantik Peak.

The fatal paragliding accident involving Brazilian tourist Raineri Rodrigo Chadded occurred in the Askole area of Shigar district. Chadded was part of a seven-member team en route to the K2 base camp, comprising individuals from France, Bulgaria, the United States, and Switzerland.

While the rest of the team proceeded towards the base camp, Chadded opted to paraglide from Askoli to Jhula camp. Tragically, he met with a fatal fall during the paragliding attempt in Askoli.

Pakistan, home to towering peaks including K2 and Nanga Parbat, witnesses a significant influx of foreign climbers and trekkers each year. Despite the challenging terrain, strict safety measures are in place to ensure the well-being of visitors. Sajid Hussain from the GB Tourism Department highlighted the efforts to enforce safety protocols and provide prompt assistance in emergencies.

While the region sees occasional fatalities, the ratio of incidents remains low considering the high volume of tourists. Tour companies are mandated to implement life insurance for climbers and trekkers, enabling quick response and rescue operations in case of any mishaps.
