Pierre Joseph : “Plainfield Man Charged with Church Assault”

A 68-year-old man from Plainfield, Pierre Joseph, has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting two boys under the age of 10 in the bathroom of a church in North Plainfield. Somerset County Prosecutor John McDonald announced that Joseph faces two counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

The incident came to light when the North Plainfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting a possible sexual assault of a minor at the church on Sunday, June 23rd. Upon arriving at the church, officers were informed that the suspect, Joseph, had been apprehended at the scene and was taken to the North Plainfield Police Headquarters for questioning.

Detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department contacted the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit after learning of the alleged sexual assault. A 7-year-old male victim was interviewed at the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Child Advocacy Center.

During the investigation, it was revealed that another 9-year-old boy had disclosed a similar incident involving Joseph that took place earlier in the year. Both boys reported being touched inappropriately by Joseph in the church bathroom.

The investigation was carried out by detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victim’s Unit and the North Plainfield Police Department, with assistance from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
