Accident – Death – Obituary News :

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas (AP) — Fourth of July celebrations at South Padre Island took a terrifying turn as shark incidents caused chaos on the beach. Two individuals were rushed to the hospital with shark bites, with at least one of the injuries reported as severe, authorities confirmed.

The attack on the man who suffered severe injuries occurred around 11 a.m., prompting a swift response from emergency services. Nikki Soto, the South Padre Island city secretary, revealed that the victim received initial treatment at the scene from firefighters and police.

In a statement released later in the day, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department disclosed that two individuals had been bitten by the shark, while two others had close encounters with the predator but escaped without serious harm. One of the bite victims was transported to a hospital in Brownsville, while the other was airlifted for further medical attention.

Game Warden Capt. Chris Dowdy indicated that based on witness testimonies and social media images, authorities believe that a single shark measuring approximately 6 feet (1.8 meters) in length was responsible for the incidents.

Following the attacks, beach patrol, firefighters, and police intensified their presence along the shoreline, deploying drones for surveillance purposes, Soto confirmed.

The last recorded shark attack in the vicinity dates back five years, according to Dowdy, highlighting the rarity of such incidents in the area. Texas Parks & Wildlife has joined the investigation to provide support and expertise in handling the situation.
