Newark Man : “Northern Delaware Businesses Robbed of Over $40K in Items: Police Investigation”

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Delaware State Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with a series of shoplifting incidents in New Castle County, where over $40,000 worth of eyewear, household items, and cigarettes were stolen. The 33-year-old man from Newark is facing a multitude of charges, including 17 felony charges, for his alleged involvement in numerous thefts between May 26 and June 28.

The arrest took place on June 30 after Delaware State Police responded to a report of shoplifting at a Kohl’s store on Rocky Run Boulevard in Brandywine Hundred. Following the incident, two men and a woman were seen fleeing towards Concord Pike. The authorities were able to identify and detain the Newark man, whom they had encountered in previous investigations. Upon searching the suspect, police discovered more than $2,000 worth of stolen merchandise in his possession.

The police had been investigating a string of shoplifting incidents across New Castle County over the past month, involving multiple businesses such as Giant, Rite Aid, Royal Farms, Kohl’s, Sunglass Hut at Macy’s, Walgreens, and Wawa locations. The total value of the stolen goods exceeded $40,000.

Despite their efforts, law enforcement officers were unable to locate the other two suspects involved in the thefts. The descriptions of the suspects evolved over time as the spree continued. The accomplices remain unidentified at this stage of the investigation.

Following his arrest, the Newark man appeared before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was remanded to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a cash bond set at $99,102. The authorities are continuing their efforts to bring all those involved in the thefts to justice..
