A deputy from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office sustained serious injuries after being struck by a suspect he was attempting to stop.

Reports from HCSO indicate that in the early hours of Friday at 12:05 a.m., the deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop on a black BMW on Bearss Avenue near Nebraska Avenue. The suspect decided to flee the scene, avoiding the stop.

Approximately twenty minutes later, at 12:25 a.m., the deputy, identified as Kalin Hall, made a second attempt to pull over the vehicle on Plantation Oaks Drive. Unfortunately, the suspect ran over Hall as he was approaching the BMW.

Hall immediately called for backup, prompting several sheriff’s office personnel and officers from the Tampa Police Department to respond.

HCSO stated that Hall was transported to Tampa General Hospital with a fractured leg, where he underwent surgery. Colonel Frank Losat of HCSO mentioned, “He is currently in good spirits, but we urge everyone to keep him in their thoughts and prayers.”

Losat also confirmed that the owner of the BMW has been identified, and detectives are collaborating with the State Attorney’s office to determine charges against them.
