PARKERSBURG — A man tragically lost his life on Wednesday morning after reportedly shooting himself when approached by Parkersburg Police.
According to a press release from Parkersburg Police Chief Matthew Board, officers were called to a location off the 1600 block of Dupont Road in response to a subject with an outstanding warrant.
The Pennsylvania State Police had reached out to Parkersburg Police for assistance in serving a warrant on an individual identified as Jimmy Carlton Henry Jr.
Henry was wanted in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, on a charge of aggravated indecent assault of a child under 13 years old.
Information received overnight indicated that Henry was in the Parkersburg area, with a potential location of employment where he could be located.
After conducting surveillance on the specified location, Parkersburg officers spotted Henry as he arrived in his vehicle at a parking lot, Board confirmed.
As officers approached Henry’s vehicle, he retrieved a firearm from inside the car and reportedly inflicted a fatal gunshot wound upon himself at the scene, Board stated.
Further investigations unveiled that Henry had been residing in West Virginia under an assumed name to evade capture. At the time of his death, Henry was listed on the Pennsylvania State Police’s “10 Most Wanted” list, according to Board.
