A tragic incident unfolded at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Washington, on Wednesday evening when a 16-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed a 13-year-old girl in a senseless act of violence. The victim, Jayda Woods-Johnson, was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of a fight between two groups of individuals.
Deputy Chief Patrick Fagan of the Lynnwood Police expressed his shock and dismay at the incident, stating, “I grew up in this area. I went to this mall, still frequent, so to have this kind of violence, senseless violence, here is upsetting.”

According to investigators, the altercation involved a group of “older teens” and escalated to a tragic outcome. Jayda, who had no connection to either group, found herself in the line of fire, leading to her untimely death.
Deputy Chief Fagan expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “It’s upsetting on a number of different levels. To have a totally innocent teenager hit is very upsetting. To have other teens engaged in this behavior on the eve of a national holiday is also upsetting.”
Following the shooting, chaos ensued at the mall, prompting a lockdown and causing panic among shoppers, many of whom were young individuals.
The suspect initially managed to flee the scene in the midst of the turmoil. However, he was later brought to a police station by his mother and surrendered to authorities. The 16-year-old now faces murder charges for his alleged involvement in the tragic incident.
