PROVO, Utah (AP) — A festive Fourth of July celebration turned into chaos as fireworks misfired and struck members of the audience inside LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo, Utah, causing multiple injuries, according to police reports.

The incident occurred during the opening ceremonies of the annual Stadium of Fire event at the campus football stadium of Brigham Young University, as reported by KUTV-TV.

Provo Police Department spokesperson Janna-Lee Holland stated that the exact number and severity of injuries sustained during the mishap were not immediately available.

Eye-witness videos circulating on social media captured the moment when individual fireworks deviated from their intended path in the sky and landed among spectators in the stands at the outdoor arena.
