According to the Milford Police Department, officers were called to the mall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a threatening complaint. The officers were informed that the suspect had brandished a firearm and fled into a wooded area behind 1250 Boston Post Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, an officer spotted the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Jamar Jarrett of Bridgeport, who then fled into a nearby garage on Cedar Hill Road. Jarrett allegedly claimed to have a hostage in the garage, but this turned out to be false. After a brief standoff, Jarrett surrendered to the officers without incident.

Investigations revealed that Jarrett had been involved in a shoplifting incident at the American Eagle store in the mall. Jarrett has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, threatening, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with an officer. He also had an active arrest warrant for a previous shoplifting incident at Macy’s. Jarrett has been remanded to custody and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on July 31.
