A man has been arrested following an incident at the Connecticut Post Mall in Milford, where he allegedly threatened to shoot a security officer and store employee.

Police Response

According to the Milford Police Department, officers were called to the mall at 5 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a report of a threatening complaint. The officers were informed that the suspect had brandished a firearm and fled into a wooded area behind 1250 Boston Post Road.

Standoff Situation

Upon arriving at the scene, an officer spotted the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Jamar Jarrett of Bridgeport, who then fled into a nearby garage on Cedar Hill Road. Jarrett allegedly claimed to have a hostage in the garage, but this turned out to be false. After a brief standoff, Jarrett surrendered to the officers without incident.

Alleged Shoplifting Incident

Investigations revealed that Jarrett had been involved in a shoplifting incident at the American Eagle store in the mall. When security attempted to apprehend him, Jarrett threatened to shoot them and was found to be in possession of stolen items from multiple stores in the mall, including merchandise valued at $239.80 from American Eagle.

Charges

Jarrett has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, threatening, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with an officer. He also had an active arrest warrant for a previous shoplifting incident at Macy’s. Jarrett has been remanded to custody and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on July 31.
