NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – Tragedy struck on the evening of July 4th in Nashville, Tennessee, as a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 claimed the life of a man and left four others injured.

The fatal collision involved a Honda CRV and a Dodge Ram pickup and took place around 7:15 p.m. near the White Bridge Road exit, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The driver of the Honda, identified as 29-year-old Jacabo Hernandez from Elm Hill Pike, was tragically ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, police confirmed.

In addition to Hernandez, the Honda was occupied by a 28-year-old female passenger and an 18-month-old boy, both of whom sustained injuries that were deemed non-life-threatening.

Authorities reported that the incident occurred as Hernandez was travelling eastbound on I-40 in adverse weather conditions, resulting in him losing control of the vehicle. Subsequently, the Honda collided with the central median barrier before coming to a halt in one of the traffic lanes.

Tragically, Hernandez attempted to ensure the safety of the 18-month-old child, who was secured in a car seat in the back of the vehicle, when the Honda was rear-ended by the Dodge Ram pickup, as per police accounts.

The force of the impact caused Hernandez to be ejected through the rear window of the vehicle.

Although the driver of the pickup truck emerged unscathed, his passengers, a woman and a 15-year-old boy, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigations revealed that the collision was primarily caused by the Honda’s failure to maintain its designated lane.

Following the necessary clean-up and investigative procedures, the interstate was reopened to traffic shortly before 10 p.m., allowing the affected individuals to receive medical attention and the authorities to conclude their examinations of the scene.
