Accident – Death – Obituary News :

An Oroville resident has been apprehended by CAL FIRE authorities for allegedly setting a backfire during the Thompson Fire that erupted in Butte County, California. The incident took place on July 2, when the Thompson Fire ignited off Cherokee Road in Oroville.

On the same day, witnesses reported observing a man setting a backfire on a property located off Oro Quincy Highway. The individual, identified as 61-year-old Harold Pulley, was found standing near a quarter acre of charred vegetation by CAL FIRE officers who promptly responded to the scene. A CAL FIRE engine was dispatched to extinguish the fire.

Upon questioning, Pulley confessed to using a propane torch to set the backfire. CAL FIRE officials expressed concern over the risk posed by Pulley’s actions to the property, public safety, and emergency personnel engaged in combating the Thompson Fire.

As a result of his actions, Pulley was taken into custody and subsequently booked into Butte County Jail on a felony charge for unlawfully causing a fire to wild land.
