VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) — Legal proceedings are underway for a Franklin woman accused of making terroristic threats and using ethnic intimidation during a trespassing incident in Franklin.

During a preliminary hearing at Venango County Central Court on Wednesday, July 3, 43-year-old Emily Sue Vanzandt, a resident of Franklin, had multiple charges held for court, including Ethnic Intimidation (Felony 3), Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another (Misdemeanor 1), Defiant Trespass Actual Communication to Actor (Misdemeanor 3), and Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting (Misdemeanor 3). The case has been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas, with Vanzandt currently held in the Venango County Prison on $10,000 monetary bail.

Case Details:

According to a criminal complaint filed by Franklin Police, the incident took place on June 18 at a property on Elm Street in Franklin. Police responded to a report of an unwanted individual on the premises and found Vanzandt engaged in a verbal altercation with the property owner. Witnesses reported that Vanzandt was shouting profanities and threats towards the victim, including a racial slur.

When officers arrived, Vanzandt was refusing to leave the property and was subsequently detained and handcuffed due to her aggressive behaviour. She claimed to have a right to be on the property to retrieve her cat, despite repeated warnings from the property owner to stay away.

Vanzandt’s threats of violence and racial slurs towards the victim were corroborated by eyewitnesses at the scene, who confirmed that the victim was not the instigator of the confrontation. Patrolman Steve Barnes, who responded to the incident, identified the witnesses and their statements supported the victim’s version of events.

Following her arrest, Vanzandt was arraigned in front of District Judge Patrick Lowrey later that evening.
