Atlanta Regional Commission : “Atlanta E-Bike Rebate Program: High Demand for Grants”

ATLANTA – The city of Atlanta has launched a new e-bike rebate program that has received an overwhelming response.

Managed by the Atlanta Regional Commission, the initiative saw a remarkable turnout with nearly 9,000 individuals submitting their applications by the June 23 deadline, which represents over 2% of the city’s adult population.

With a $1 million investment from the city, the program is open to all residents of Atlanta who are 18 years old or above.

According to the ARC, close to half of the applicants, totaling 8,888, met the income qualification criteria by earning at or below 80% of the region’s median household income, approximately $60,200 for an individual. As part of the scheme, 75% of the rebates were allocated for low- and middle-income earners in Atlanta. Eligible recipients could receive $1,500 for a standard e-bike or $2,000 for a larger cargo bike.

For other residents, the rebates offered were $500 for a standard e-bike and $1,000 for a cargo bike.

A lottery was conducted by the ARC to select the first set of 413 rebate recipients. Winners have the option to choose from 12 vendors within the city to buy their bikes, which can reach speeds of over 20 miles per hour and have a range of up to 50 miles.

If you missed out on this round, don’t worry. The next round of applications is tentatively scheduled for late August, with the selection lottery set for September.

A third round is also planned for around October.

It is estimated that the rebate program will lead to the purchase of approximately 800 to 1,000 e-bikes.
