ATLANTA (WANF/Gray News) – Authorities in Georgia are still investigating the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy who was found inside a hot car and pronounced dead on Tuesday. Cobb County Police Chief Stuart VanHoozer revealed during a press conference on Wednesday that no charges have been filed in connection with the incident, as it is still too early in the investigation to determine if anyone will face criminal charges.
Chief VanHoozer urged the public to show compassion and support for the grieving family, stating that the department does not believe there is a need for outrage at this time. He emphasised the need for time to properly investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death before reaching any conclusions.
Sgt. Eric Smith of the Cobb County Police mentioned that there is currently no evidence to suggest that the child was intentionally left inside the car. Authorities are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to contact the Crimes Against Persons Unit at 770-499-3945.
The tragic discovery was made at 884 Wanda Circle, where emergency services responded to a call at approximately 5:30 p.m. The child was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital but sadly could not be revived.
A WANF reporter visited the family’s home, where relatives were gathered on the porch. They confirmed that the child resided at the residence and described the death as an accident.
Neighbour Amy Barnes, who witnessed the heartbreaking scene, recalled the moment when the toddler was brought into the house looking “blue-faced.” She recounted the chaos that ensued as emergency services were called to the scene, describing the incident as a tragic event.
