Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman who was found fatally injured inside a home in Mendocino County over the weekend. The victim has been identified as 77-year-old Roberta Ann McNeal-Wood from Willits, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office.
The circumstances surrounding McNeal-Wood’s death are still under investigation, pending the final autopsy and toxicology report, as stated in a news release issued by the sheriff’s office on Wednesday.
On Saturday morning, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office received several calls from residents of Blue Lake Road, north of Willits, reporting a disturbance at a residence in the 5200 block. Deputies responded to the scene and discovered broken windows and blood in and around the front of the house.
Upon entering the living room, deputies found McNeal-Wood with injuries consistent with a “violent assault.” Unfortunately, despite efforts to administer CPR and first aid, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
During their investigation, deputies encountered a vehicle arriving at the property. Inside the car was 41-year-old Michael Coleman, a resident of Willits. Subsequent evidence led to Coleman’s arrest on suspicion of homicide. He was booked into Mendocino County jail and is currently being held without bail.
