Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A man is facing serious charges after causing a crash while driving under the influence in north Greeley last month. The incident resulted in injuries to two women involved in the collision.

Details of the Incident

28-year-old Misael Gomez-Monson has been arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular assault, as well as several misdemeanors including assault, DUI, reckless driving, and driving without insurance. The arrest was made based on an affidavit filed by the police.

The crash occurred just after 10:30 p.m. on June 16 at the intersection of U.S. 85 and C Street. Police responded to a rollover collision involving two vehicles, a Suzuki SUV and a Toyota SUV. The Suzuki, driven by Gomez-Monson, was heavily damaged and lying on its side. Police found Modelo beer cans inside the Suzuki, indicating possible alcohol consumption by the driver.

According to the victim driving the Toyota, Gomez-Monson ran a stop sign on B Street and pulled out in front of her, causing the collision. The passenger in the Toyota suffered a broken wrist, while the driver sustained a sprained ankle and leg injuries. Gomez-Monson, however, did not appear to have suffered any significant injuries.

Police Investigation

There were no independent witnesses to the crash, and occupants of the Suzuki were unwilling to provide statements. Police noted the smell of alcohol on Gomez-Monson’s breath and observed bloodshot, glassy eyes. Despite admitting to consuming two drinks several hours before the crash, Gomez-Monson claimed to have no recollection of the events leading up to the collision.

It was also discovered that Gomez-Monson did not possess a valid driver’s license and could not provide proof of insurance for the vehicle he was driving. He refused to undergo a roadside sobriety test and declined a chemical test, in violation of Colorado state law.

Legal Proceedings

Gomez-Monson was taken into custody and booked at the Weld County Jail. He was released on bail on June 21 and is scheduled to appear for an advisement hearing on July 30 at the Weld District Court.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the severe consequences that can result from such irresponsible behaviour.
