The Russell County Sheriff’s Office has reported a tragic incident at Wilson State Park, where a severe thunderstorm caused multiple campers to topple over. The incident resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man from Holyrood and left three others injured.

The severe thunderstorm struck Wilson State Park on the evening of July 7, 2024, catching campers by surprise. Strong winds and heavy rain caused several campers to overturn, trapping individuals inside and causing significant damage to the campsite.

Victims Identified

The 64-year-old man from Holyrood, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other individuals, whose names have also not been disclosed, sustained injuries during the incident and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
