TRAVELERS REST, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Travelers Rest Police Department has announced the successful arrest of a wanted Upstate man after a lengthy nationwide search involving multiple law enforcement agencies in South Carolina and Florida, including the U.S. Marshals.
The investigation into the case began in September 2022 when a man disguised in a lab coat targeted a vulnerable 75-year-old woman at a Walmart in Travelers Rest. The suspect followed the woman through the aisles, ultimately managing to steal her wallet before fleeing the scene in a white Ford Expedition.
Authorities revealed that the suspect, identified as Michael Trimaine Jackson, later used the stolen credit cards to purchase two $500 prepaid Visa cards, which were subsequently used in Charleston.
The Greenwood police department reported a similar incident within their jurisdiction, leading to the issuance of arrest warrants for Jackson by both departments.
Jackson was eventually apprehended in the Orlando, Florida area in June and was held at the Lake County Detention Center until his extradition was approved.
Following his formal waiver of extradition, Greenwood police travelled to Florida on July 1 to execute their warrants. Jackson was then transported back to the Greenwood County Detention Center on July 2.
It has been disclosed that Jackson is facing over 40 warrants from various law enforcement agencies, including the Travelers Rest Police Department. Additionally, he has outstanding warrants in Aiken County, South Carolina, and the state of Georgia.
