CHICAGO – A Chicago man and a teenager are facing a slew of felony charges in relation to a shooting and fatal hit-and-run incident on Chicago’s Southwest Side that occurred in March.
32-year-old Maurcio Castro and a 17-year-old boy were apprehended on Wednesday, as per a statement released by the Chicago police department. Both individuals have been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and forcible felony. Additionally, Castro is facing an additional charge of aggravated battery with a firearm.
The events unfolded around 1:34 a.m. on March 30, when Castro and the teenager engaged in an altercation with a 30-year-old man on the 5600 block of South Artesian Avenue. Subsequently, Castro brandished a firearm and shot the man, who sustained a graze wound to the head and was promptly taken to Holy Cross Hospital in stable condition.

Following the shooting, Castro and the teenager fled in a black vehicle and collided with 45-year-old Edgar Santamaria. The impact proved fatal for Santamaria, who was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries.
Law enforcement officials managed to apprehend Castro in Hillside and the teenage suspect was taken into custody on the 6200 block of South Francisco Boulevard in Chicago after being identified as the perpetrators in both incidents.
