Bajali, 4th July: In a significant breakthrough, Bajali Police have apprehended five individuals from Guwahati in connection with the brutal murder of a local businessman.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Manohar Ali, Eyakub Ali, Saidul Islam, Joynul Abedin, and MD Saher Ali. Manohar Ali is believed to be the mastermind behind the heinous crime, according to police sources.

The arrests were made at a hotel in the bustling Paltan Bazaar area of Guwahati, where the suspects were temporarily residing.

Police Investigation and Statement

Speaking on the matter, Bajali Superintendent of Police (SP) Ajagwran Basumatary said, “The CCTV footage we obtained played a crucial role in apprehending all the accused from Guwahati. They were found staying in a hotel in the Panbazar locality. The victim was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon and a firearm, and it seems the motive behind the crime was a dispute over land ownership.”

Details of the Incident

The tragic event unfolded on the evening of 1st July when a 33-year-old man, Ibrahim Ali, was mercilessly killed in the Dhumarpur area. Ibrahim was returning home with his mother, Shahera Khatun, from a nearby warehouse, just a short distance from their residence.

The assailants not only took Ibrahim’s life but also inflicted severe injuries on his mother. The entire brutal act was captured by a CCTV camera installed in front of their house, providing vital evidence for the investigation.

Familial Account and Allegations

Ismile Hussain, the elder brother of the deceased, recounted the harrowing incident, stating, “A group of six individuals came to perpetrate the crime, but tragically, they mistakenly targeted my brother. As he was returning home with our mother, they attacked him with both firearms and knives. The entire horrifying sequence was captured by the CCTV camera outside our residence.”

Hussain also asserted that the family had been receiving multiple death threats due to an ongoing land dispute and had previously informed the authorities about the potential suspects. Additionally, the family alleged that the perpetrators were involved in illicit activities such as drug smuggling and other criminal ventures.

Legal Action Taken

Following the gruesome incident, the police swiftly registered a case under Patacharkuchi Case No. 1380/3 103(1)/109/18(2)/190/329(4) BNS and Section 25(1) (A)/27/35 of the Arms Act to ensure justice is served and the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
