Man Dies Following Shooting in Morris Heights

A tragic incident unfolded in Morris Heights as a 30-year-old man lost his life in a shooting, just a day after another fatal incident occurred a few blocks away involving a stabbing.

On Wednesday, July 3, at approximately 9.59 p.m., officers from the 46th Precinct responded to a distress call regarding an ongoing assault at the intersection of Loring Place and Burnside Avenue. Upon arrival, law enforcement found a 30-year-old male with multiple gunshot wounds and a 19-year-old male with head injuries. Both victims were swiftly transported to St. Barnabas Hospital by EMS.

Tragically, the 30-year-old male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by medical staff, while the 19-year-old is in stable condition. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation remains active.

The deceased has been identified as Jonathan Cameron, residing on Sedgwick Avenue in the University Heights area of The Bronx.

The NYPD had launched a murder investigation following a fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old man on Tuesday, July 2, in front of 1809 Phelan Place, just a few blocks south of the University Heights border.

There is currently no evidence linking the two incidents.
