A Boulder man has been arrested for allegedly shooting two people over a span of five days during separate incidents, according to the Boulder Police Department.

The investigation began when a man arrived at the hospital around 2 a.m. with a gunshot wound, claiming he was shot by an unknown assailant. Boulder PD detectives identified a potential suspect and his address in the 1700 block of Baseline. Upon further investigation, authorities linked Wednesday’s shooting to a previous incident that occurred on Friday night in the 1600 block of 28th Street.

On Friday, a 911 caller reported hearing gunshots at around 9 p.m. However, when officers arrived at the scene, they found no victim. It was not until Wednesday that the victim, a man who had been shot in the shoulder, sought medical attention.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old John Paul Gaudreau, was taken into custody around 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Boulder PD recovered at least one firearm during the arrest. Gaudreau is facing charges of two counts of attempted first-degree murder, reckless endangerment, violating a protection order, and a domestic violence sentence enhancer. Additional charges are pending.

When they do, they generate fear and are extremely concerning to our agency.” He commended the efforts of the investigative and patrol teams for swiftly apprehending the suspect without any further injuries.

According to Boulder police, Gaudreau and the victim of Friday’s shooting were acquainted, while Wednesday’s shooting was believed to have stemmed from an argument between Gaudreau and a stranger.
