LYNNWOOD— A heartbreaking incident unfolded at Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood on Wednesday evening, resulting in the tragic death of a thirteen-year-old girl. The victim, identified as Jayda Woods-Johnson, was shot during an altercation and succumbed to her injuries, according to a report by Lynnwood Police.
The perpetrator, a sixteen-year-old male from Edmonds, has been apprehended by authorities and is currently in custody. He is facing charges of murder in connection with the shooting. Despite efforts to locate the firearm used in the crime, the gun has not yet been recovered, and detectives are actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 6:04 p.m. on July 3 at the Alderwood Mall food court, where a confrontation between two groups of teenagers escalated into violence. The suspect brandished a handgun and fired a single shot, unintentionally hitting the innocent victim as she walked by with a friend.
Lynnwood Police Chief Cole Langdon expressed his sorrow for the victim’s family and urged the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Law enforcement officials believe that a group of four to five teenage males instigated the altercation, leading to the fatal shooting. The victim’s family has been notified of the tragic loss.
In response to the emergency, officers from Lynnwood Police Department, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, and Mountlake Terrace PD swiftly mobilized to provide assistance. K-9 units and aerial support were also deployed to aid in the investigation.
