ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The Atlanta Police Department is offering a substantial $50,000 reward in cash to bring justice to two grieving families in the wake of a tragic shooting incident.

Authorities are actively seeking the individual responsible for the fatal shooting of two teenagers and injuring a third in southwest Atlanta.

Community Support for Victims’ Families

Friends, neighbours, and loved ones have come together to support the mothers of the two young victims who are facing an unimaginable loss. The local community is rallying behind the families, hoping that the significant cash reward will lead to a swift apprehension of the perpetrator.

On a somber Wednesday, a gathering was held on Sparks Street in southwest Atlanta to honour and remember 13-year-old Jakody Davis and 12-year-old Dj Dontavious Davis, who tragically lost their lives in the senseless act of violence.

The two boys, along with their friend Lamon Freeman, were shot outside an apartment complex early on Tuesday morning. Freeman, who had just celebrated his 13th birthday, also succumbed to his injuries.

Prayers for Healing and Justice

During a heartfelt prayer at the balloon release event, a local pastor beseeched for divine intervention and peace in the grief-stricken community. The pastor’s words reflected the collective plea for justice and closure for the devastated families.

Family friends shared that Dontavious and Jakody had visited the apartment on Sparks Street to extend birthday wishes to Freeman. Tragically, as the trio was leaving the premises, they were met with a hail of gunfire that claimed the lives of Freeman and Jakody.

Dontavious, Jakody’s brother, managed to make it to the hospital where he is currently recovering from his injuries.

Appeal for Information

Police have issued a generous reward of $50,000 for any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrator. The community is hopeful that the reward will prompt individuals with vital information to come forward and assist in bringing the perpetrator to justice.

Mothers Against Gang Violence spokesperson, Tekesia Shields, emphasised that while the financial reward is significant, it cannot undo the pain and suffering endured by the families. Justice, however, remains a paramount objective for the community.

Individuals with information on the case are urged to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers Atlanta tip line at 404-577-TIPS (8477), online at www.StopCrimeAtl.org, or via text by sending CSA and the tip to CRIMES (274637). Tips can also be provided directly to the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit at (404) 546-4235. Informants do not need to disclose their identity to be eligible for the reward.
