A 22-year-old Austin resident has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder following a tragic incident on Monday, July 1, 2024, that resulted in the death of his father.
The Austin Police Department (APD) received several distress calls reporting a stabbing at around 5:39 p.m. at 6715 Windrift Way. Upon arrival, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) found the victim, identified as 51-year-old James Lerond, lying in the street and immediately began life-saving procedures.
Following a trail of footprints, officers discovered Hayden Craig Lerond, the victim’s son, in the living room with minor injuries. Hayden was promptly transported to the hospital for assessment and treatment.
Through a thorough investigation conducted by Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists, it was determined that Hayden Lerond had allegedly stabbed his father, James Lerond, leading to his untimely demise. Hayden was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Travis County jail on charges of first-degree murder, as confirmed by a press release from the Austin Police Department.
