Waking up early in the morning to discover his truck and boat had been stolen and taken on an hourlong high-speed chase wasn’t exactly the Independence Day Garrett Walters had in mind. But there he was on Thursday, facing the aftermath of a dramatic theft that left him reeling.
The chaos began around 3 a.m. when thieves made off with Walters’ Ford F-250 and 19-foot Triton fishing boat from his brother’s home in Cypress, west of Houston. What followed was a heart-pounding chase that spanned U.S. 290, Interstates 10 and 45, and even saw the suspects driving in the wrong direction on the Eastex Freeway.
By the time Walters was alerted to the theft by his girlfriend, Lauren Hawkins, police were already in pursuit. The couple, known for their fishing adventures on social media, were in Texas to film a video for a bass fishing company when the incident occurred.
Despite the thrilling chase that ended with one suspect in custody and another on the run, the repercussions of the theft were severe. The stolen truck suffered tire damage from police strip spikes, and the diesel tank was filled with gasoline, leading to further complications.

Hawkins described the toll the chase took on the boat, with visible damage to the trailer and concerns about potential harm to the motor. The thought of a cracked transom adding up to a hefty repair bill of $15,000 loomed large for Walters.
As they navigated the aftermath of the theft, Walters and Hawkins were left to assess the extent of the damage and contemplate the implications for their future fishing expeditions.
