Clark and New York City Police Commissioner Edward Caban have revealed the indictment of eight Bronx men for their alleged involvement in the illicit sale of firearms, cocaine, and methamphetamine in close proximity to Yankee Stadium. The defendants stand accused of jeopardizing public safety by engaging in unlawful transactions in a heavily frequented area.

District Attorney Clark underscored the grave risk posed by the defendants, remarking, “The individual who purportedly sold eight firearms to an undercover NYPD officer placed countless subway commuters, local residents, and baseball enthusiasts in harm’s way. These alleged perpetrators brazenly conducted their illicit activities during daylight hours, mere steps away from the Stadium and beneath the elevated subway station.”

Commissioner Caban reiterated the persistent menace posed by illegal firearms and narcotics, commending the undercover officer for their vigilance and lauding the collaborative efforts of the Bronx District Attorney’s office. “These charges underscore the pernicious threat that illicit firearms and drugs continue to pose on the streets of New York City, as well as our unyielding commitment to enhancing the quality of life in every neighbourhood,” he affirmed.

The defendants, identified as Jeriel Fernandez, 30, Jael Fernandez, 21, Jonathan Fernandez, 31 (all of whom are related), Marvin Fortuna, 29, Ronny Fortuna, 32 (also related), Jose Tejada Jr., 26, his father Jose Tejada Sr., 60, and Christian Espinal, 49, have been indicted on a total of 108 charges. These charges encompass first-degree Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, second-degree Conspiracy, and first-degree Criminal Sale of a Firearm.

The investigation, which culminated in the seizure of 11 firearms, including an AK-47, and a sum of $418,000, led to the arraignment of the Tejadas, the Fortunas, and Jonathan Fernandez on July 2, 2024, before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Brenda Rivera.
