A man has been taken into custody and is facing charges after a shooting incident that took place outside a residence in Selma, as reported by the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office.
According to information obtained by 10 News, the incident occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, when a resident living on the 1218 block of Staunton Street contacted authorities to report the presence of four males outside her home.
Upon arrival at the scene, a Clifton Forge Officer alerted dispatch that shots had been fired from the residence towards a Nissan Altima that was trying to flee the area.
The officer proceeded to detain a suspect, identified as 37-year-old Christopher Sorrels from Selma, in connection with the shooting incident.

An AR .223 weapon was recovered at the scene, and at 4:48 a.m., LewisGale Alleghany Hospital contacted dispatch to report that four males, one of whom had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower right leg, had arrived at the facility.
Additional deputies responded to the hospital, where they secured the suspected vehicle and the four juveniles who had been involved in the incident.
Following an investigation, authorities determined that three juveniles and an 18-year-old man were present on or near Staunton Street when the homeowner emerged from the residence brandishing a firearm.
As the individuals attempted to flee, the homeowner opened fire on their vehicle, hitting it multiple times. One of the juveniles was struck in the right leg and subsequently transported to Roanoke Carilion Hospital for treatment.
The injured juvenile is said to be in stable condition, while the investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Christopher Sorrels has been charged with the following offences:
- Malicious wounding
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Shoot at an occupied vehicle
