Two Women Arrested for Stealing and Buying Four-Year-Old Boy in Adamawa State

Two women have been apprehended by the Adamawa State Police Command for their involvement in the theft and purchase of a four-year-old boy. The suspects, identified as Blessing Okonkwo, 24, and Efunaya Nabufe, 35, who reside in Mubi North LGA, have admitted to their roles in the incident. The young boy, Friday Okonkwo, was the victim of this horrifying crime.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, revealed on Thursday that the mother of the missing child, Hauwa Lawan, residing in Rimirgo, Askira Uba, a town on the Adamawa-Borno border, reported the abduction of her son on Tuesday, July 2.

Providing further insight into the case, Nguroje explained that Blessing, who is actually Friday’s elder sister, had met their mother in Rimirgo last year. She requested to take her younger brother to Mubi for better education opportunities, as there were no quality schools in Rimirgo. Unaware of Blessing’s ulterior motives, Hauwa agreed to let her son go with his sister.

However, Blessing had already struck a deal with Efunaya to sell the boy. Deceitfully, she claimed that Friday was her own child, born during her time in secondary school. This falsehood led to the transaction, with Efunaya purchasing the child for N410,000. After pocketing the money, Blessing used a portion of it to buy a grinding machine and gave the rest to her fiancé.
