Accident – Death – Obituary News : Chennai: A group of nine individuals, masquerading as law enforcement officers and armed with a fake gun, handcuffs, and a walkie-talkie, abducted a pharmacist and looted him of ₹7 lakh on Wednesday night. The victim, identified as Azaruddin, 33, a wholesale pharmaceutical dealer from Chromepet, was targeted by the gang while he was on his way home on his two-wheeler.

According to reports, five men posing as police officers stopped Azaruddin’s vehicle, brandishing a firearm, handcuffed him, and forcibly took him away in their SUV. They falsely accused him of selling sedative tablets and threatened him with dire consequences. The assailants then coerced Azaruddin into withdrawing ₹7 lakh from his credit and debit cards. They also warned him to pay an additional ₹50 lakh or face lifelong imprisonment.

After realizing that the individuals were not genuine law enforcement officers, Azaruddin lodged a complaint with the Sankar Nagar police station. Law enforcement officials analyzed CCTV footage from the locations where the cash was withdrawn and successfully apprehended the members of the gang. The nine culprits were identified as V Arun, 40, from Kundrathur; S Karmegam, 38, from Perumbakkam; Satham, 28, from Kanchipuram; G Rafique, 40, from VOC Nagar; I Imran, 27, who operates a medical shop in Pallavaram; S Satheesh, 29, from Pammal; B Antony, 36, of Kundrathur; V Venugopal Rao, 27, of Pallavaram; and F Yashwanth Babu, 33, from Pammal.

Authorities revealed that the kidnapping was a result of a business rivalry, with Imran being the mastermind behind the scheme. Imran, envious of Azaruddin’s success in the pharmaceutical industry, aimed to force him out of his shop to take over the business. Subsequently, police recovered goods worth ₹4 lakh and two mobile phones from the suspects, who have been placed in judicial custody.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and caution in business dealings.
