During a press conference held shortly before 7 a.m., Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd expressed her deep sadness over the loss of the young officer. She highlighted the dedication and bravery of the department’s officers, emphasizing the risks they take every day to protect the community.
Chief Todd stated, “Our men and women in uniform work tirelessly to keep our streets safe. They put their lives on the line, and they deserve our support and recognition. It’s important to remember that they are the true heroes of our community.”
Support for the Officer’s Family
Chief Todd also mentioned that she had spoken with the officer’s family multiple times and acknowledged the devastating impact his death has had on them. She assured the family that the department would provide them with the support they need during this difficult time.
Although the officer’s name was not released to the public, Chief Todd revealed that he was a 27-year-old man who had served with the Cleveland Division of Police for the past four years.
Details of the Incident
The shooting took place overnight when officers responded to a call in the 1500 block of East 80th Street. They were attempting to arrest a man wanted for felonious assault when the suspect produced a firearm and began firing at the officers.
Chief Todd identified the suspect as a 24-year-old man whose name will be released once formal charges are filed against him.
